Grant Reviews Peter Luger's Steak House

As I said in the first post, my first experience with Luger's left me having psychadelic dreams that night. It was, hands down, the best meal I had ever had. I have been there several times since then and each time it gets better.

I may be wrong, but I believe they only serve the Porterhouse cut. These are huge steaks. I normally don't like my steak too pink, but don't insult them by ordering it cooked any more than medium. It is not bloody at all and you don't want to ruin that great piece of meat by charring it. You can order the right amount of steak based on your party size.

The sides are all unbelievable. FYI - put the Peter Lugers house steak sauce on EVERYTHING. I'm not a fan of tomatoes whatsoever. But order the Tomatoes and Onion appetizer. It's literally just huge beefsteak tomatoes and huge raw onion slices, but the combination is fantastic. The other appetizer you should get it the bacon. Huge strips of thick bacon, or as I like to call it "Steak-on". I'm also not a fan of spinach, but you need to get the creamed spinach. The german potato side is also a staple. Or just ask your waiter what he recommends.

The ambience is really the biggest draw for me. A lot of the times, high-end restaurants in NYC have a dress code and are a bit 'hoighty-toighty'. Not here. You could show up in a t-shirt and shorts if you want. People are loud and having a good time. The waiter are all these old German dudes, who are extremely helpful and nice. You could get a simple cold beer or something from their extensive wine list.

I wish I could say something bad about this place, but I can't. If I could afford to eat here every week I would. It's saying a lot that we are basing our reviews of the other steak houses based on how they compare to Peter Luger's. This place is the best.
