Club A Review

Man..Sox had a good year last year, eh?  Tom is STILL paying for steaks for the sox dominating everything.

We went to Club A Steakhouse on a rainy friday night in NYC.  This place is decorated well, cool and upscale atmosphere.  I have to say the waiter and manager were great.  The service was excellent...albeit just a bit slow.  We got some Ravioli on the house to start along with our normal order of a bacon appetizer.  The steak and sides were all pretty middle-of-the-road, but not bad by any means.  It was solid.  My favorite was the creamed spinach.  It seemed to have something different going on than the rest of the steakhouses..very nice.  To top it off, the manager came over and chatted about the dinner and we told him we frequent many a steakhouse..he hooked us up with after dinner drinks which was a nice touch.

Go Sox!

Morton's Review

Thanks to Ortiz and his masterful hitting, Tom K is shelling out for a steak dinner at Morton's!

For a Friday night, Morton's was kind of dead. With no one sitting next to us, I could practically scream how much the Yanks suck.

We started with crab cakes as an appetizer. They were solid. We both wished they had the thick cut bacon, but it'll do. The bread is also worth mentioning, came out piping hot and yummy. For dinner we had the thickest porterhouse we've had thus far. It was 4-5 inches tall. We ordered it medium rare, plus. For being as thick as it was, it was cooked absolutely perfectly. They have magicians in the kitchen over there. It had been a while since we got to eat steak, so this hit the spot. They offered various sauces, but it would have been a bad idea to ruin that perfect steak by putting anything on it. We had the staples, creamed spinach and hash brown potatoes. Nothing to write home about, the spinach was a bit bland. We ended with the signature chocolate lava cake. I kept saying it wasn't made on site, that it was frozen, but Tom disagreed. Either way it was a good ass cake.

It is worth noting it took a while for us to get dinner, as slow as it was. I'd say we were sitting for an hour before we actually got to eat. Not the end of the world. Our server was awesome and on top of everything...and even joked around a bit.  All-in-all it was great to taste such a magnificent steak after so long. And even better when it's free!

Ortiz hits 60 RBIs first! Wins Grant free steak!

Ortiz came through, as one of the best clutch hitters of all time. The only good player on the Yankees, Cano, was oh-so-close to winning, but fell short! Go Sox! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJgUkhBum9I

2012 Season Finale Bet Winner - Tom K!

Well, We finally par-tooked in the season finale dinner on Feb 11th. It was the mother of all Yankee Red Sux bets- The Luger Fest!

Grady swung by to enjoy the best Lugers night to date! Everything rocked - from the warm bread to sweet onions and delicious tomatoes to the requisite bacon app, spinach and potato sides to the beast of a three person Porterhouse.  Also, many many cold beers!

We liberally applied Luger's sauce to our whole meal, to ourselves and to our nearby diners. Also all over the taxi and the driver and several pedestrians in old town Brooklyn. It was tits (cause tits are a good thing!)

Thanks Red Sux for failing miserably last season and to Grant for buying me free awesome steak...AGAIN!

Until next time motha -FUCKAS!

Hughes wins free steak from Mark Joseph for Tom K and Grant pays for it....again!

We enjoyed yet another Peter Lugers clone (in the south street seaport area this time). A co-owner apparently worked at the Long Island Luger location. Decor was decent and perhaps because we were there on a Sat, the Wall Street Maggots (who deliberately created huge housing bubbles and toxic debt, recklessly sold them off as derivatives and crashed our economy and then made trillions off the rest of us shorting it on the way down as well) thankfully were not out in meaningful numbers.

But I digress. Mark Joseph steakhouse is a solid dining experience. We had a sharp waiter who gave great service and skillfully brought out our traditional order of bacon apps, porterhouse for 2 medium rare, creamed spinach and hash browns. We both thought the porterhouse was a bit smaller than other places but it was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. Sauce and sides were swell as was a special apple tort with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.

We were fully stuffed by the end and felt like many steakhouses have now achieved a sort of excellent equilibrium on this formula.  It's a little out of the way for public transportation but somewhat close to the South Street Seaport downtown area. Great night! Thanks Grant for humbly forking over fat bucks for a sweet dinner and the Red Sux for their sheer ineptness this season!

Next up end of the Season Steak Win for Tom K bringing the total wins to 3 out of 4! I love free steak and baseball!

Go Yanks 2013!

Benjamin Steakhouse Review

DING DING DING...We have a new champion!  Benjamin Steakhouse is another Peter Luger's clone...but they said "I can do it a little bit better."  And they nailed it.  But first, lets just remember that the Yankees love to choke:

We were early to our reservation and were warmly greeted and sent to the bar to wait.  The bartender was a cool dude chatting everyone up.  When our table was ready we weren't rushed to get there and they made us feel just as important as the wall street douches that were there.

We got the staples.  Started with thick slices of bacon then went to Porterhouse for two, potatoes and creamed spinach.  The sides were excellent...they weren't exactly like Luger's, they added their own touch to it and made it so much better.  Everything blended well with one another.  The steak itself was hands down the best steak we've ever had.  It came out sizzling and stayed hot to the last piece...perfect charring on the outside, pink and blood on the inside.  The meat cut like butter and melted in your mouth.  Add some of their awesome Lugers-esque steak sauce and you've got the best meal of your life.  They had a crazy assortment of deserts on the menu.  I went with the carrot cake and tom got the pecan pie, both with homemade whipped cream and both delicious.

Luger's will always have a special place in my heart, but Benjamin's just beat it out.

St. Anselm - Hip Replacement - Best All-Star Break Record Bet

Yanks won the best record at All-Star break this year so Grant had to blow some extra dudes at Port Authority this season to pay for some nice steak!

Being the winner and all, I chose St. Anselm in Brooklyn as a change of pace and because of the great reviews. We weren't disappointed! The vibe at this place is low key and hipster oriented. Tatooed waitresses and Led Zep tunes cranking, I like it immediately.

Though not technically a steak house they offer some great meats. We chose a bone-in rib eye for two, sides of spinach and pan fried truffled mashed potatoes and beers! Rockin good!

We arrived early to avoid crowds (no reservations taken here) and got a table right away. Service was good and I had to say I really enjoyed the absence of fuck faced banker types while enjoying a nice meal! I guess this rates in the middle of the pack overall ratings wise. It is the best bang for the buck of any place we tried to date! They also have cool shit like roasted chicken with the feet still on and other assorted roasted mammals.

You can also get the house specialty hanger steak for an incredible deal. I will try that next time. It was a while ago and I can't remember the dessert. Grant do you remember? Oh yeah, what about that so called team Boston?

Q. What do the Boston Red Sox and lawn furniture have in common?
A. They both fold and end up in the cellar near the end of the summer.

Q. Why doesn't New Haven, Conn., have a MLB team?
A. Because then they'd want one in Boston, Mass., too.

Q. What is the difference between a Red Sox fan and a baby?
A. Even the baby stops whining after a while.

Go Yanks!!!!
